I wrote this short story after getting caught up in a conversation (assisted by a glass of wine) at Gino’s. I was “piemped” by Matt Kruger and hence at Gerrit Rautenbach’s insistence, I wrote and entered the darned thing for the travel writing competition. Never expected it to get anywhere, but lo and behold, there it is, on the Litnet website. Considering that I find writing in Afrikaans a bit more daunting than writing in English, I’m quite chuffed with myself.
